Monthly & Private Studio

Membership

Midwest Clay Project offers Monthly Membership at $105/mo. This includes 24/7 access to the studio space, storage space for your work and clay, use of the studio wheels, tools, and workspace, as well as discounts on clay and firing credit.

Private Studio Memberships are available as well. Same benefits as above, but with a 10’x10′ lockable space instead of a shelf for storage. SOLD OUT.

Interested? If you are new to MCP or have limited knowledge of the ceramic process, you will need to take one of our 6-week classes OR a series of Private Lessons (with reference check) prior to being granted membership access. You will learn about our studio procedures as well as how to make a pot or sculpture from start (a lump of clay) to finish (glazed piece), thereby enabling you to have greater success with independent studio time while also protecting the studio’s kilns and equipment.

Clay & Firing
CLAY:
Midwest Clay Project offers a variety of bagged wet clay for purchase. We have a variety of Continental's clay as well as some Paoli Clay Co's clay. When available we sell our MCP Studio Mix (de-aired reclaim). Prices are per 25-lb. bag. Check available stock and purchase clay via our online store or in person.

FIRING CREDIT:
When you are finished making, you decide which objects you would like to keep. Rejected work and scraps are recycled in the reclaim bucket to be re-processed by MCP staff into Studio Clay. “Keepers” are taken to the greenware shelves where they await the first (bisque) firing. When placing dry work on the greenware shelves, you will first weigh and label each object using our digital scale. During the kiln loading process, MCP staff collect tickets from all work that enters the kiln. No ticket = no firing. These tickets are later tallied and deducted from each person’s Firing Credit Account. This one-time ticketing process covers bisque firing, glaze materials, and glaze firing. Sounds complex we know, but we promise it’s easy!
