Throw & Alter
Push, pull, cut, and shape your pots beyond the basic shapes! This class will explore a variety of ways to alter a thrown pot for some truly creative outcomes. Create dynamic curves, join multiple pieces, make squared forms, facet walls, and create non-pulled handles and lugs. We will also make simple tools for you to keep!
Basic throwing skills required. 15 lbs finished work included.

I recently took this class and it was wonderful! We learned many techniques to change our thrown pots from the usual round forms. The owner of MCP is the teacher and he packed each class with good information and several projects for students to choose from. In our class we had students with varied throwing experience (from 1 year to 6 years). Everyone seemed to accomplish the projects they went after and had good results. The teacher made the process fun and encouraged us to ask questions. I’m so glad I took this class because it expanded my ideas of how to work with thrown forms.
I took this class over the summer with Sally B and was one of the “newbies” in throwing experience. Having a basic throwing foundation is valuable prior to taking this class. I thoroughly enjoyed this class and learning many different techniques to alter a pot. We were presented with a wide variety of methods and projects to try out. Brian made the projects accessible to everyone, no matter your level. I appreciated the support and encouragement throughout the class – from Brian and the others in the class. I’d highly recommend this class if you are interested in advancing your basic skills or learning new techniques to add to your toolbelt.
